CHENNAI, June 19 (UNI) Members of Tamil Nadu Towheed Jammad (TNTJ) and their family members would organise a 'Jail Bharo' (fill the prisons) agitation in all the eight central prisons in the state on July four, demanding exclusive reservation for Muslims in jobs and educational institutions.
Addressing a press conference here today, TNTJ President P Jainulab Abideen said Muslim minorities were disappointed over the non provision of exclusive reservation for them for the last 40 years, though different governments had made promises in this regard.
Even as Muslims comprised 17 per cent of the state's total population, they were able to get only two to three per cent reservation, he added.
He said the present DMK government set up an expert committee, soon after it came to power to go through the question of providing exclusive reservation for Muslims and the committee submitted its report to the state government.
But instead of implementing the committee's recommendations, the government said it would discuss with legal experts and announce its decision.
There was no need for legal consultation as the existing law itself was very clear, he claimed.
TNTJ state Secretary Mohammed Munir pointed out that they would intensify their agitations unless the government announced exclusive reservation for Muslims.
The TNTJ's General Council would meet at Dindigul in August and decide its further course of action, he added.
