Tyranny of the dress code

To celebrate the downfall of the Taliban rule, it is reported that the Afghan women happily threw off their burqa.

Burqa in the Taliban rule was not just a piece of loose garment worn by Muslim women, but a symbol of total denial to women of personal freedom and equality with men.

Social oppresion through dress regulations has been in vogue in many societies all over the world.

In a number of cases, the oppressed are not even aware of the injustic and discriminations- the paractice being perpetrated as a sort of religious injuction, a social norm, or cultural tradition.
