GUWAHATI, June 20 (UNI) Suspected ULFA militants struck at the MLA hostel facing the new secretariat building in the high security at Assam capital Dispur zone in the wee hours today.
Police said ULFA militants threw a grenade damaging some window panes of the new secretariat building.
The building was in the VVIP zone.
No casualties were, however, reported.
Senior police officials rushed to Dispur to investigate the incident.
Sources said they would especially probe as to how the suspected ULFA militants could strike at the highly cordoned security zone.
Tension was still running high in the Maligaon area near the North Frontier Railways Headquarters after the recovery of a powerful bomb this morning which the bomb squad defused.
