NEW DELHI, Oct 1 (UNI): The United Muslim Front today criticised the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and said the move was politically motivated and an attempt to unnecessarily provoke and malign the Indian Muslims.
Front chairman and president of Insaaf party Baseer Ahmad said in a statement here today that the BJP wants to create suspicion against the Muslims in the minds of people of other religion to get Hindu votes in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
"If the government was impartial and sincere then it should impose a ban on the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad who are imparting training use of arms to Hindu youths and delivering inflammatory speeches against the Muslims," Mr Ahmed said and charged that they were fomenting communal trouble at various places.
Dr Ahmed condemned the police firing on Muslims killing four persons at Lucknow and demanded action agains the policemen responsible for it.
He also demanded compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of each of those killed.
Govt to consider ex-gratia to scribes families NEW DELHI, Oct 1 (UNI): Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpaytee today said the govenrment would consider payment of ex-gratia to the affected families of the four journalists who died with senior Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia in a plane crash yesterday.
Speaking to a delegation of the Delhi Journalists Assocition (DJA) headed by its president Hemant Kumar Bishnoi, Mr Vajpayee said a resolution to this effect would be considered by the union cabinet tomorrow.
The DJA had requested the prime minister to arange payment of exgratia to the breaved famiies, Mr Bishnoi said.
Meanwhile, a Dharna would be organised tomorrow outside the press club of India to mobilise public opinion against attacks and other atrocities on media people in various parts of the country, Mr Bishnoi said.
