KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Mar 16: Dissatisfied over what she called 'totally wrong replies' on creation of new tehsils in Anantnag district, National Conference MLC Sakina Itoo today staged a walkout in Upper House here today.
Responding to a question of Sakina and MS Panditpuri, Transport Minister Mangat Ram Sharma was put in the dock by NC members.
Mangat was replying to questions on behalf of Revenue Minister, a portfolio presently with Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Coming up with supplementary question, Sakina said, "how many tehsils have been created in Anantnag district in the last three years".
When Mangat replied in the negative, Sakina said, "Meri Information Ke Mutabik Qazigund Mein Diya Hai, Devsar Mein Diya Hai Aur Ab Minister Sahib Kah Rahen Hain Ki Nahin Diya Hai".
"Yeh Bilkul Galat Jawab Hai", she said, adding "Aur Noorabad Ko Tehsil Ka Darja Kyun Nahin Diya Ja Raha Hai.
Criteria Kya Rakha Hai".
Bashir Ahmed Naz after seeking permission of the chair said, "Qazigund Mein Pathar (foundation stone) Rakha Gaya Hai while Ashok Sharma said, "what would be the fate of tehsils in his constituency which have been recommended under Wazir Commission".
Realising that Mangat has been cornered, Housing and Urban Development Minister Tariq Hamid Qarra stood up from his seat and said, "there are certain proposals before the government which are under consideration".
However, Qarra's reply failed to have any positive impact on NC members, who alleged that government has been creating tehsils to suit its whims and fancies.
Mangat in a bid to pacify NC members said, "Jo Tehsils Banayi Gayi Hain Wohi Apko Batayi Gayi Hain".
Referring to Ashok, he said, "Triath Wazir Commission Repot Mein Hai, Aur Jab Tehsils Denge To Block Bhi Denge".
"Raha Noorabad Ka Sawal To Woh Ek Pasmanda Ilaka Hai Aur Usey Bhi Priority Par Liya Jayega", he added.
Earlier, in his written reply, he said, "ten new tehsils have been created in the state during the last two years which include Marwah, Panjar, Chatroo, Darhal, Mandi, Charar-e-Sharief, Khan Sahib, Khag, Rafiabad and Awantipora".
He said, "there is a proposal under consideration of the government to make tehsils co-terminous with CD and NES blocks.
As and when the financial position permits, the remaining areas may be considered under relevant criteria".
He said, "the creation of new tehsils needs to be considered on the basis of population and geographical topography and involve huge amount of funds".
