Vasan flays Jayalalithaa's confrontationist attitude

CHENNAI, June 17 (UNI) TNCC President G K Vasan today came down heavily on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for adopting a confrontationist attitude towards the Centre and blaming the Union Ministers from the state for the Medical Council of India (MCI) not granting recognition to the Theni Medical College in Andipatti.

Taking strong exception to her remarks that the MCI by deliberately not granting recognition to the college had done injustice to the people of the Theni district, Vasan said Jayalalithaa was attributing motives to the functioning of the Union Ministers from the State.

She was aware of the fact that the MCI was an autonomous body consisting of experts and there could not be any political intervention, he said.

If the college complies with the rules of the MCI in providing infrastructural facilities, then there is not going to be any bar in getting recognition for the college, he added.

Blaming the Union Ministers from Tamil Nadu on the issue was unwarranted when actually the MCI had not given permission due to insufficient infrastructural facilities, he claimed.

Instead of trying to politicise the matter, Jayalalithaa should provide the basic infrastructure required for the Medical College and obtain recognition from the MCI, Vasan said.

Jayalalithaa, while addressing a function yesterday had said that even though the College had all infrastructure facilities, the MCI was stalling the process on 'fliy' grounds.

While Chief Ministers of other states were keen in holding talks with the Union Ministers to get clearances for the projects in their respective states, Jayalalithaa's confrontationist attitude had affected the developmental schemes in Tamil Nadu, he alleged.
