Venus and Clijsters renew rivalry in fourth-round tilt

NEW YORK, Sep 6 (Reuters): Third seed Venus Williams and Kim Clijsters renew a rivalry of former champions when they meet in one of the most eagerly anticipated showdowns at the US Open today.

Clijsters, returning to competition after taking a two-year break to start a family, acquitted herself surprisingly well in two summer warm-up tournaments for the Open and in three wins at Flushing Meadows.

"But I haven't played the big ones yet," the 26-year-old Belgian wild card said earlier in the championship."Hopefully I'll give myself a shot at doing that here." The 2005 champion gets that shot against Williams, the 2000 and 2001 winner, at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

They last met four years ago and their relationship goes back almost a decade yet there will be no room for nostalgia as they battle for a berth in the quarter-finals.

Williams leads the series 6-4, although Clijsters won their last two meetings.

Champion Serena Williams, the second seed, precedes her older sister on centre court when she opens the day seven programme against 22nd seed Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia.

On the men's side, Australian Open champion Rafael Nadal goes against fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro in a third-round match.

Second seed Andy Murray of Britain closes the curtain on the night session against big-serving American Taylor Dent.

Gambhir launches MRF's new racing car CHENNAI, Sep 6 (UNI):"This is tougher than cricket," Indian cricket's new icon Gautam Gambhir remarked after launching MRF's New Formula Single Seater 1600 CC car at the modern race track at Irungattukottai near here today.

Gambhir, who is MRF's new brand ambassador, drove the racing car over one lap to marking its inauguration.

The car would be introduced later this year in competitions.

Gambhir, talking to newspersons after the launch, said motor racing was more exiting and tough."I enjoyed the drive." Gambhir said he has some knowledge about F1 race."I follow F1 race a bit." He said seven time world champion Michael Schumacher was his favourite F-1 driver.
