Waugh discusses business, cricket with Bengal CM

KOLKATA, Feb 15 (UNI): Former Australian cricket captain Steve waugh today called on West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to explore the possibilities of investments in the state and discussed cricket.

"He is quite knowledgable about cricket and so we discussed busniess and sports," Waugh told reporters after his 40-minute-long meeting with Bhattacharjee at the Writers building here.

Waugh said after his career in cricket he had been looking for opportunities for other types of investments.

"I am going to be involved with business people, who have lots of experience.

I am a learner at the moment," he said.

Besides, his manager, Waugh was accompanied by a few senior officials of a city-based Bank.

It was learnt that Waugh and his team were looking for investment opportunities in building new townships, roads and hospitals.

To a question, Waugh said he had been looking for investment opportunities in different states of India, including West Bengal.

"I have already vsited Mumbai and Bangalore.

Out of 11 days in India, I have spent six days in Kolkata," he pointed out.

The former Australian cricket captain did not specify the area of investment but said the response from the West Bengal government was "very encouraging." "They are freindly and very helpful.

I am hopeful of doing something here," he said.

Waugh said besides his charitable organisation 'Udayan' in Barrackpore near here, he has another charity project for setting up a school for the visually impaired children.

"It will be a school for the visually impaired kids between 3-5 yrs and initially 20-25 children will be accomodated.

The school will be set up here and the visually impaired children will be given live skills and live oppotunities.

It will be the first school of its kind in India," he observed.

Referring o cricket, Waugh said, he had discussed about Indian as well as Austrlian cricket with the Chief Minister.

"We also talked about the coming Pakistan series and I know how important it is for the people of both countries," he said.

"I have given my opinion about the series to the CM and I know that it is something more than cricket for the two countires.

Everybody is thinking as to what is going to happen," he said.

To another question, Waugh said he met his former rival Sourav Ganguly last night and discussed subjects other than cricket.

"It was a normal conversation away from cricket," he added.
