KOLKATA, Feb 12 (UNI) The West Bengal Pradesh Congress has finalised a list of probable party candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state.
The Congress plans to give five out of the 42 seats in the state to its allies.
A high level meeting of senior party leaders, including state party president Pranab Mukherjee, A B A Ghani Khan Chowdhury and Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, have finalised a panel of probable candidates.
The list of candidates is expected to be submitted to the party high command during the day.
Party sources said the Congress' chief whip in the Rajya Sabha Pranab Mukherjee is also expected to contest from Jangipur constituency in Murshidabad district which is considered to be a stronghold of the party.
The senior party leaders to get renominated are Ghani Khan Chowdhury in Malda, Priya Ranjan Das Munshi in Raigunj and Adhir Chowdhury in Berhampore.
The sources also said the alliance partners like the Party for Democratic Socialism would contest two seats, while the Sharad Pawar-led NCP would field a candidate in one seat.
The Congress has an understanding with the Jharkhand Party (Naren) and the possibility of giving one seat to Jharkhand Mulkti Morcha (Soren) is also being looked into.
