What hypocrites are we..!

By Robert Clements What kind of hypocrites are we? Enough to be the laughing stock of the world: On one hand we have the moral police skirting every bar, beach and bench to trace any trace of romantic saliva leftovers on lovers lips; banning girls from dancing in bars, arresting actresses from making frank statements on premarital sex and on the other hand we elect and nominate to our highest governing body, an actor and an actress who are in a bigamous relationship with each other, who have birthed children outside their marriage and who openly talk of their relationship with each other as if it is the most normal thing in the world.

And as I listen and read the scores of interviews these two give to both the press and TV, it seems we are making such a relationship seem right.

The 'husband' turned seventy a few days ago.

His youngest son, an actor himself writes a letter to his dad which is published in a prominent daily, where he talks about how dad has always been there for the family! Which family? The family of his keep, or should we call it his second wife or the family of his first wife.

What kind of sons were they who felt such of a dad who could leave their mother loveless and publicly be with another woman.

But I will leave the family alone, as repercussions to such a situation will manifest itself in time as abnormal behaviour patterns surface in due course.

I will move to we people who not only hero worship this gentleman and mistress but have put not one but both of them as our representatives in Parliament! When we put a man or woman in the House, he or she represents our thoughts, our feelings, our views, everything.

Those gentlemen and them ladies tell the world who India is.

Is this what India is? If it is then we need to tell our local politicians and moral police.

"Listen Mr Super cop and you Mr Chief minister, stop pulling me off the beach for kissing my girl friend!" "But we have to, this is India!" "Exactly!" "Exactly what?" "We are being Indian when we indulge in such stuff, its legal now, parliament has okayed it, the people have okayed it, it's okay man, its fine!" But no, we with stick and microscope will wheedle out and scrutinize all form of love making activity which poor common man does in corners he manages to search and find, and there when he is in the middle of passionate peck to someone he has professed his love for, we use the stick and flush him out and show the world pictures of his amorous advances.

Yet when others such as these two publicly display their lust, we yell with glee, carry them on our impoverished shoulders and thrust them into Upper and Lower Houses to be worshipped!
