KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Feb 15: Reiterating coalition government's resolve to give new impetus to agriculture related activities, Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Abdul Aziz Zargar today called upon the J&K State Agro-Industries Development Corporation Limited to intensify efforts for becoming a self sustaining and viable economic enterprise.
He said the Corporation had been instrumental in promoting farm mechanization and should now lay thrust on diversifying its activities.
Zargar, who conducted an extensive inspection of the Corporation's Cattle Feed Plant at Bari Brahamana near here today, said the present government has accorded priority to agriculture and allied sectors adding that several measures of far reaching results have been initiated to make these fields bandwagons of socio-economic prosperity.
He said Agri-Export zones are being set up in the state to give fillip to agriculture, horticulture and vegetable produce while micro management programme has also been launched to yield better results.
He said under Prime Minister's economic package Rs.
100 crore-technology mission for horticulture, Rs.
16 crore-mission for sheep husbandry and Rs.
12 crore-mission for animal husbandry have been sanctioned.
The Minister, who went round the various units of the plant and evinced keen interest in its working, asserted that cattle feed production, a promising market.
He said a new thrust and direction is being given to cattle and poultry sectors and this means greater demand for the feed.
Earlier, the Managing Director of the Corporation, Inayatullah Khan informed the Minister that the plant has an installed capacity to produce 50 metric tonnes of cattle feed daily.
The production which was 3491 quintals in November last jumped to 7901 quintals in January 2004 with the installation of a new pellet mill.
Likewise, the sales went up from 4916 quintals to 7096 quintals during this period.
The value of sales showed considerable improvement as it touched Rs.
50 lakh in January this year as compared to Rs.
30 lakh in November last.
He said the feed produced at the plant was the only one in the state to have ISI mark.
A deputation of the employees also met the Minister and apprised him of their problems.
The Minister gave them a patient hearing and assured of appropriate action.
