Kupwara hamlet's residents denied power, allege harassment by PDD KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 21: Terming the "crusade against corruption" by the Azad government as a hoax, the residents of Khanagund Gujjar Basti Khumriyal in Kupwara district today alleged that one PDD official sought favours in lieu of installing the power transformer in their locality.

A delegation of residents told Kashmir Times that their village is some four kilometers away from Kupwara and the village is devoid of basic facilities like road communication and electricity.

They said if somebody falls ill, he or she has to be taken on shoulders uptil the main road.

They said that they are immensely suffering because of the lack of electricity in their locality.

"In the year 1996-97, a transformer was installed in our area and we were made to forge agreements with the PDD, but the electri supply remained just for a few months", they complained.

They further complained that the adjacent 25 households were recently allotted a transformer in their area but "we are denied it." They requested the authorities to intervene.

When contacted, the deputy commissioner of Kupwara, Kachu Asfindyar Ahmad Khan said that he would look into the matter.
