Benazir to return home in mid September

KARACHI, Jun 13 (Agencies):Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto is all set to end her self-exile and return home in mid September this year, ahead of the announcement of the forthcoming general elections.

After consulting with senior members of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Benazir has decided to return to Pakistan, The Nation quoted a PPP source, as saying.

Benazir's return would not only boost the moral of the party workers, but it would also help in restoring true democracy in the country, said a senior party leader.

The former premier went abroad in 1997 during the second term of the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and is in exile in London since then.

However, the source denied the news regarding a deal with President Pervez Musharraf.

He said the PPP was engaged in dialogues with the General in order to set modalities for holding of free and fair elections, and transition to democracy.

He further claimed that Benazir's decision of returning to Pakistan was not part of any deal with the government, and she would land at Lahore airport accompanied by senior party leaders and her elder son Bilawal Bhutto.

"Benazir would return to Pakistan three months ahead of forthcoming general election," said Sherry Rehman, the PPP central information secretary.
