MUMBAI, Oct 16 (UNI): Accepting the defeat of the BJP-Shiv Sena combine in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan said that the parties will play the role of a "constructive Opposition." Addressing a news conference at the BJP state headquarters here, Mahajan, who was accompanied by leader of Opposition in the current assembly and senior Sena leader Narayan Rane, said that respecting the people's mandate, both the allies will play the role of a constructive Opposition.
Mahajan, in his opening remarks, said that the results were not to the expectations of the saffron combine.
"In a democratic set-up, the public is like God.
"Jantantra me janata he bhagwan hai," he opined.
"And we cannot blame them (public)," the former Union Minister said.
"We might not have come up to the expectations of the public," he said and added that the alliance partners would have to work hard in near future and serve the people better.
"What I can say now is that we will have to play the role of a constructive Opposition for the next five years," he said.
