Gavaskar criticised in Pak for Inzamam's exclusion from World XI LAHORE, Aug 26 (UNI) Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar, who headed a six-member selection panel that picked the World XI for Super Series, drew flak from irate cricket fans here for ommitting Inzamam-ul Haq from the side.
Associated Press of Pakistan reported a group of cricket followers staged demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club yesterday following news that Inzamam had been ignored while picking the Test and one day sides which would take on Australia in the Super Series.
While the Test squad did not have a single Pakistani player, the ODI squad included paceman Shoaib Akhtar and allrounder Shahid Afridi.
One of the protestors, Gulfraz Khan described it as 'murder of cricket' while others lambasted ICC President Ehsan Mani and Gavasker for dropping Inzamam.
Apart from Gavaskar, other memebers of the selection panel included Mike Atherton, Richard Hadlee, Clive Lloyd, Jonty Rhodes and Aravinda de Silva.
Organised by the Sports Welfare Association and the local cricket association in Karachi, the demonstrators, holding Inzamam's poster, said they were protesting the "gross injustice".
Sirajul Islam Bukhari, a local cricket official, said, "It's a great injustice to cricket as World XI is incomplete without Inzamam.
It is a blow for the game." Piqued at Inzy's omission, PCB wants representation in selection LAHORE, Aug 26 (UNI): In a clear indication that Inzamam-ul Haq's omission from the World XI for the Super Series has not gone down well with it, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has written a letter to the ICC seeking representation in all future selection panels.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar chaired the six-member panel, which also included Mike Atherton, Richard Hadlee, Clive Lloyd, Jonty Rhodes and Aravinda de Silva.
"In the letter, it has been asked to include out representatives in all the future panels, whether to pick team or select players for awards," PCB Director (Board Operations) Abbas Zaidi said.
PCB has also instructed its Director (Cricket Operations) Saleem Altaf to raise the issue with ICC Chairman Ehsan Mani on the sidelines of the ongoing Scheduling Summit in Dubai.
"We have not asked the ICC to reconsider its decision regarding Inzamam but have certainly mentioned the resentment in public and media following the selectors decision to ignore Inzamam," Zaidi said.
