Fielding helped me find a place in the Test squad : Kaif

NEW DELHI, Dec 4 (UNI): Perhaps the most agile member of the TeamIndia squad, Mohammed Kaif feels his fielding prowess made it easier for him to earn a Test cap.

"Yes, it did help me, for fielding is taken much more seriously these days.

Each and every team now are keen to strike a right balance among three department of the games-batting, bowling and fielding-and India is no exception.

That way, it did help me," he said here today.

Kaif was here to promote Pepsi's new sports drink Gatorade.

Asked how he felt when former South African Cricketer Jonty Rhodes described him as one of the best fielders around, Kaif returned the compliment saying, "It feels good when such words come from someone who has been the greatest fielder.

It also encourages one to work harder and strive for perfection.

I know, there would be ups and downs in the career but I have to keep trying to improve myself." Often called the fielding captain of the side, Kaif said he was aware of the pressure of expectation.

"A hell lot of passion, money and fame are involved in Indian cricket.

You have to be simply top class - no other way out," he said.

Spelling out the secret of his fitness, Kaif said "I've done away with oily food and heavy meals, Rather I go for less food, but more frquently." Heaping praises on team physio Andrew Leipus, the lithe lad from Allahabad said, "He brought about a change in the fitness culture in the side and has been simply fantastic."
