Hyderabad royal descendent seeks Pak mercy for 'Indian national' NEW DELHI, Aug 24 (UNI): An erstwhile Hyderabad Royal descendent and a human rights activist has urged Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf to stay the execution order and grant mercy to Sarabjit Singh, an Indian national condemned to gallows on charges of spying as a 'RAW operative'.
Dr Begum Fatima Shanaz, a western educated woman who heads the Delhi-based India Peace Organisation wrote to Gen Musharraf that she was unaware of the 'guilt or innocence' of this individual, but majority of Indian public were shocked at the extreme measure of execution of an Indian national condemned to death by the Supreme Court upholding the orders of a Pakistan Tribunal.
Dr Shanaz said she was writing in her capacity as a peace activist and reminded the Pakistan president how easily Indians got her branded as 'Pakistani agent' and 'Indian agent' by Pakistanis in 1990s.
She herself was one such victim when she was working for peace in New York.
She said the timing set for execution would cloud good relations between the two countries.
"To sustain peace process to save lives in the sub-continent, I suggest you stay the execution.
If this involved deeper judicial investigation, and send the individual back to India where Indian people and media will see that justice is served", she said.
Dr Shanaz broke the news of her writing to Pakistan President at a function organised by Intellectual Forum organised to felicitate Union Minister of State for Planning M V Rajasekharan last night.
