Indian colts lift U-19 tri-series in South Africa

JOHANNESBURG, Jan 5 (UNI): India was declared winners of the U-19 tri-series involving hosts South Africa and Sri Lanka, after the final against the Proteas was washed out without a ball being bowled, here today.

The Ashok Menaria-led side finished the tournament with a tally of 13 points, way ahead of South Africa's six and Sri Lanka's five.

India beat Sri Lanka twice and South Africa once in the league matches.

Their second league game against the home team, prior to the final, was also washed out.

Paceman Saurabh Netrawalkar was declared the Player of the Series for his consistency with the new ball.

His best performance was in the second league game against Sri Lanka, wherein he returned figures of 5 for 26, even as the opposition was bowled out for a paltry 52.

The three teams will now proceed to New Zealand for the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup.
