JKP lifts 11th J&K Police Martyrs Football trophy

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Oct 8: Jammu and Kashmir Police has lifted the 11th J&K Police Martyrs Memorial Football trophy-2009 defeating its arch rival in a closely fight final match played at Bakshi Sgtadium Srinagar today.

Both teams had scored one goal each in the allotted time.

Ther afterafter it was decided to apply tie breaker in which J&K Police converted five penatly kicks and J&K Bank could finish four.

J&K Police won match by 6-5 goals.

Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed the winner and runners-up trophies.

Speaking on the occasion, Omar lauded the J&K Police for its stupendous role in the efforts of restoring peace and law and order in the state.

He said the sacrifices given by the police personnel shall be highly remembered.

"The martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir Police who laid their lives for the cause of peace and protection of the citizens will be remembered always”, he said and added that government will do everything possible for the rehabilitation and welfare of police martyrs’ families.

The Chief Minister hoped that coming days will be more peaceful and conducive and no precious life will fall prey to the violent acts.

"Let us prey and work for complete peace and tranquility in the state so that we live, progress and develop in a conducive atmosphere and no body becomes victim of violence”, he said and told J&K Police that government would be at their back to support it in its endeavor to restore permanent peace in the state.

Omar said that the football tournament organized to commemorate the police martyrs would go a long way to pay homage to the brave soldiers who sacrificed for the protection and safety of the people and keep their memory live.

The Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda welcomed the Chief Minister at the function and briefed him about the welfare measures JK Police is taking for the rehabilitation of police martyrs.

The tournament was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in collaboration with J&K Football Association as many as 34 teams from all over the state, besides the teams of Punjab Police, CRPF participated in the tournament and the final was played between J&K Police and Jammu and Kashmir Bank.
