Junior doctors elect body

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jun 7: Dr Sajjad Mirza and Dr Narinder Singh have been elected as president and senior vice president of Junior Doctors in Government Medical College at Jammu today.

As per a press release, the meeting was held under the leadership of its president Sajad Mirza, wherein a body was framed keeping in view the problems being faced by the juniors doctors.

Other elected members are Dr Ajay Deep Sahni elected as general secretary, Dr Agnivesh Tikoo elected as joint secretary while others included Dr Vinod Katil, Dr Neeraj Gupta, Dr Javed Iqbal.

Executive members are Dr Rajesh Gupta, Dr Vineet Gupta, Dr Rakesh Thakur, Dr Ranjeet Thakur, Dr Sidharath Verma, Dr Talib Hussain, Dr Arun Dev Singh Manhas and Dr Sunny Gupta.

Those who spoke in the meeting included Dr Ashok Dhilon, Dr Vinay Menia and Dr Sandeep Koul.

Zargar selected for international "Gold Star Award" KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jun 7: Chairman of Faridia Volunteer Organisation Mohammed Bashir Zargar has been selected for 'International Gold Star Award' for his contributions to the welfare of society.

As per a press note, the award would be presented by the IIFS in London (UK) at the end of June 2008.

Tributes paid to Haji Buland Khan KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, June 7: Rich tributes were paid to veteran Gujjar leader Haji Buland Khan on his first death anniversary at a commemorative function and prayer meeting held in Dharmari in Reasi district.

Thousands of people drawn from the region particularly Gool-Arnas and Gulabgarh joined the ceremony to mark first death anniversary of Haji Buland who served these areas as a legislator for several years and also remained as Vice Chairman of the Gujjar Advisory Board.

The commemorative function at Dharmari on Friday was also attended by the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, his cabinet colleague Gulchain Singh Charak and Member Parliament Chowdhary Lal Singh was jointly organized by the Block Congress Committee Arnas and J&K Gujjar and Bakwerwal Conference of which Haji Buland Khan was the founder chairman.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad also dedicated to the people of Dharmari a newly created Government Degree College.

Addressing a large gathering of people on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Haji Buland Khan's death has caused a severe void in the political and social sphere of Jammu and Kashmir.

Underlining the services of Haji Buland Khan for upliftment and welfare people, the Chief Minister recalled struggle of the veteran leader for development of his region.

He said that Haji Sahib would always come to him and other leaders with the issues of local people.

He added that in his personal capacity and as Chief Minister he would ensure that the developmental works projected by Haji Buland Khan are taken to logical conclusion.

Chief Minister complimented Haji Buland Khan's son Ajaz Ahmed Khan, who is Minister of State for Finance and Revenue, for carrying forward the mission left behind by his illustrious father.

Referring a large gathering present at Dharmari, the Chief Minister pointed out that this underlines the respect and affection people still have for Haji Buland Khan.

Red Cross distributes uniforms among students KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, June 7: Red Cross Society at today distributes uniforms among students in a function held GHSS Shastri Nagar here today.

Hirdesh Kumar Singh who was also Chairman of Red Cross Society, Jammu was the chief guest where as CEO Jammu .

Suresh Kumar Sharma presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion .

Hirdesh Kumar Singh Red said that Red Cross Society, Jammu has been doing excellent work in all fields for the upliftment of weaker sections of the society especially for orphan students, adding that education is of utmost importance in the present scenario.

He appreciated the efforts of educational authorities to organize such a memorable function for the weaker sections to achieve 100% literacy in the state under the aegis of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

He appreciated the steps taken by Education zone Satwari and advised other ZEOs to follow same suit.

On the occasion, DDC Jammu distributed free uniform, shoes and other aid to the 370 poor and orphan students of zone Satwari who were identify by the different schools.

He also briefed the Childline functioning, which is a 24-hour free phone emergency outreach service for children in needing care and protection.

He informed that Childline is a project of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in collaboration with State Governments, NGOs, academic institutions, UNICEF and the corporate sector.

A cultural programme was also presented by the student of different schools.
