Manipur sinks Darjeeling 18-0 in Women's Football Championship

GANGTOK, Oct 8 (UNI): Favourites Manipur today walloped KFA Darjeeling by 18-0 to secure full 3 points in their first Group A encounter of the 1st All India Women's Football Championship being played here at Paljor Stadium.

Striker I Prameshwori Devi hammered a double hattrick while midfielder Ph Bina Devi scored a hattrick in the match.

The other scorers for the Manipur team were Bem Bem Devi (2 goals), substitute Ksh Naocha Devi (2 goals), L Asharani Devi, Sh Rani Devi, K Rebika Devi, S Ibeyaima Devi and substitute Kh Surbala Devi.

The Manipur team had raced to a nine goal lead in the first half and doubled the lead in the second half against a hapless Darjeeling side.

Manipur takes on neighbours Assam in their second group match tomorrow.

Orissa defeated its Southern neighbour Tamil Nadu by 2 goals to nil in a Group 'B' match played today.

Susmita Mallik and captain Sradhanjali Samantary scored the goals.

In the second match of the Group 'B', Sikkim "Green" lost to West Bengal 0-3.

Paromita Sit scored in the 12th minute, Nosaba Alam in the 34th minute and Sujata Kar scored in dying minutes of the first half.

Tomorrow, Manipur will take on Assam while Sikkim "Green" faces Tamil Nadu.

The tournament is being organized by the women’s wing of Sikkim Football Association.
