AIZAWL, June 16 (UNI) State Congress president Lalthanhawla's detractors have engineered a split in the party following a meeting held here last evening, party sources said here today.
J Lalsangzuala's group spokesman H Zosangliana today said Hawla's detractors yesterday reaffirmed their resolve not to work under the Congress president, leading to the spilt.
Among the dissidents are four Congress legislators Saikapthianga, Liansuama, S Rohluna and K Lianzuala.
However, it was not yet decided whether a new political party would be formed by the disgruntled Congress members.
The spokesman further added the decision to form a new party would be made after consulting others.
"At the moment there are several factors constraining us from making a decision as to whether a new political party should be floated or not," he said adding "as of now we have not received any word from some of our leaders in the rural areas." Another factor is that our MLAs cannot make a move without giving their resignations as they are bound to the party by the latest anti-defection law, Zosangliana pointed out.
