NEW DELHI, Dec 7 (UNI) The advice of religious leaders would be sought during revision of textbooks only for those portions which deal with religions, minister for human resource development Murli Manohar Joshi said.
He said this while addressing a delegation of Arya Samaj leaders who called on him here today.
They submitted a memorandum demanding that passages in the ncert history textbooks which hurt the religious sentiments of people must be removed.
Dr Joshi said if any offensive references about region, religion, caste or community is present in textbooks, it would give rise to prejudices in the minds of children.
The minister pointed out that the government is committed to preserving the rich culture and heritage of the country."In a country like india where people of all religions have co-existed for centuries, and where there is so much tolerance, we cannot encourage intolerance", he added.
