School students rescued from flood waters

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Aug 14: An Army School bus carrying seven students of Kendriya Vidyalaya number 1 Akhnoor students from Detyal near Danpur to Akhnoor were marooned due to sudden increase in water level in Thindewali Khad, near Jourian this morning.

Defence spokesman here said that the bus was swept by swirling water approximately 50 meters off the road into the nullah and settled on it side.

The incident took place at 6.25 AM this morning.

The locals of the area immediately informed the Army Camp at Rakhmuthi and a rescue team comprising of recovery vehicles and troops were rushed to the accident site from Rakhmuti, Jaurian and Hamipur.

Due to the fast current of the water, spokesman said that no one was able to approach the School Bus from either side.

Displaying exemplary courage and bravery Sahib Singh, resident of village Danpur entered gushing waters and reached the school bus first and thereafter a cohesive and joint effort by locals and army saved the students.

They were able to extricate all the marooned children as also the army personnel who were stuck in the school bus.

Brigadier BS Chauhan, Commander Rakhmuthi Garrison supervised the complete evacuation process and thanked all the locals involved in the rescue operation individually.
