NEW DELHI, OCT 30 (Agencies): CBI Director Vijay Shankar today described the Delhi High Court's death sentence to Santosh Kumar Singh in the Priyadarshini Mattoo case as a "benchmark judgment" and underlined the meticulous and objective probe by the agency.
Observing that the extreme punishment underlined and reiterated the CBI's objective and meticulous investigation in the case, he said it was unfortunately not upheld by the trial court.
"It is a benchmark judgment," he said, adding it will make the trial court and the investigating agencies introspect to improve their performance.
